ALLERGY AWARENESS WEEK - 2024 (Dept. of Pharmacy Practice)

As a part of Allergy awareness Week(23-29 June 2024), campaign was organized by Department of pharmacy practice, Grace College of Pharmacy, Palakkad and conducted by Dr.S.Thangamani, Professor , Mr. Mahesh T Madhavan, Associate professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice &13 Internship students at Chittur Taluk Hospital, Palakkad on 26-06-2024 from 9:15am to 12pm. The main aim of the camp was to generate awareness among the people regarding the alarming rise of allergy, its causes, signs and symptoms and Prevention. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Sudhesh, General Physician, Chittur Taluk Hospital, Palakkad and general public in and around Chittur enthusiastically participated in the event. Approximately 100 patients were counseled by the students. The main focus of counseling was to help them to prevent the causes of Allergy and the prepared leaflets by the department were also provided to the general public.

CAREER GUIDANCE - 2024 (Global Opportunities for Indian Pharma Students )

The Grace Pharma Placement Cell, Grace College of Pharmacy has conducted a career guidance programme on Global Opportunities for Indian Pharma Students entitled Bridging the Gap between Critical Skill Shortages at Grace Auditorium on 21 st May 2024. Mr. Sony Akkara., Founder & Executive Director for “EazyLink Academy” (A global Education Group Based at Kerala), who describe the salient features of recruitment outside India. Additionally he has convened the message of job opportunities to the current final year B. Pharm and Pharm. D students for their best foreign opportunities in near future. The Orientation programme was intended to conduct to flourish the awareness about the job opportunities among the pharma aspirants especially in abroad (Outside India).

The career guidance programme fetches the job opportunities for the Under Graduate (B.Pharm) and Post Graduate (M. Pharm & Pharm. D) Students. The interactive sessions with the resource person was much useful and get a hold of an excellent opportunity to B. Pharm and Pharm D aspirants who aim for their career initiatives in abroad especially in Ireland, Canada, New Zealand, U. S. A and Australia.

Mr. Sony Akkara did his MBA from Hilton School of Management (Silver Medal Holder) is a Postgraduate in Business Management with 30 years of experience in the senior management positions with organizations like Hindustan Unilever Ltd., Reliance Communications and Systema Shyam (MTS Telecom).

An antimicrobial Awareness campaign was organized by Department of pharmacy practice, Grace College of Pharmacy, Palakkad at Primary Health center (PHC), Kodunthirapully, on 22 nd November 2023 from 09.00 AM to 03.00PM. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Esther Anu Pathrose MBBS, FID, CCEBDM, Diabetologist & Mr. Danial (Health Inspector), PHC, Kodunthirapully. An Antibiotics Awareness Camp was successfully conducted in the Grama Panchayat of Kodunthirapully with the aim of educating the public about the responsible use of antibiotics and the dangers of antibiotic resistance. This initiative was a collaborative effort involving III Sem M.Pharm, IV & V Pharm D, VII Sem B. Pharm students and volunteers (Asha workers) the support of the Grama Panchayat.

Main objectives of this programme was to raise awareness about the proper use of antibiotics, To inform the public about the risks associated with antibiotic misuse, To promote the understanding of antibiotic resistance and its consequences.

House Visits: A team of Grace College of Pharmacy students and volunteers visited every house in the Kodunthirapully Grama Panchayat. During the visits, we provided information on how antibiotics should be used correctly and the importance of completing prescribed courses. We distributed informative pamphlets in the local language to ensure that everyone could understand the message. Interactive Sessions: At various points in the community, interactive sessions were conducted to engage with the public. These sessions included Q&A segments where residents could ask questions about antibiotics and their use.

Distribution of Educational Materials: Pamphlets, brochures, and posters were distributed to all households. Materials were also left at community centers and other public places for wider reach. Conclusion: The Antibiotics Awareness Camp in Kodunthirapully Grama Panchayat was a resounding success. We achieved our goal of spreading crucial information about the proper use of antibiotics and the dangers of resistance. We thank the Grama Panchayat, volunteers, and the residents of Kodunthirapully for their support and participation.

A Diabetes Awareness campaign was organized by Department of pharmacy practice, Grace College of Pharmacy, Palakkad at Primary Health center (PHC), Kodunthirapully, on 20 & 21 st November 2023 from 09.00 AM to 03.00PM. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Esther Anu Pathrose MBBS, FID, CCEBDM, Diabetologist & Mr. Danial (Health Inspector), PHC, Kodunthirapully.

The main aim of this campaign was to avoid acute de-compensation, prevent or delay the appearance of late disease complications, decrease mortality, and maintain a good quality of life. General public in and around Pirayiri, Navakode and Kodunthirapully patients were enthusiastically participated in this event. Approximately 342 patients were counseled by the IV. Pharm D (Batch: 2020 - 2026) students. The main focus of counseling was to help them to prevent complication and control of Diabetes, Pharmacological, Non Pharmacological and life style modification were included in the counseling aids.

ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2023-2024

B.PHARM & PHARM.D ORIENTATION PROGRAMME 2023-24 BATCHES

On October 18, 2023, the Grace College auditorium hosted the orientation program for our twenty-third batch of new B. Pharm students (since 2001) and our twelfth batch of new Pharm.D. Students (since 2011).

The performance began with a prayer song performed by the B. Pharm students. Our Honorable Vice Principal, Prof. Dr. C. I. Sajeeth, welcomed the group and wasfollowed by Patron Janab P. P. Unneen Kutti Moulavi gave the Inaugural Address, giving the group study tips and stressing the value of parents monitoring their children's development in extracurricular and academic pursuits.

It was anticipated that the Keynote talk, delivered by Prof. Dr. Y. Haribabu, Principal of Grace College of Pharmacy, would be an inspirational speech motivating parents and students to achieve their objectives with determination. Following that, the heads of the departments of pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmacology, Respectively, Dr. Baskar L. and Dr. R. Sivakumar, gave a felicitation speech.

Everyone received a vote of gratitude from Mr. Karuppasamy, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Analysis, Grace College of Pharmacy.

The inauguration was kicked off with a welcome speech by Mr. Jayan PM, President of IPGA Kerala, and a Presidential Address by Mr. C Padmakumar, Special Officer, Kerala, Medical Technology Consortium. Mr. Mohammed Hanish IAS, Principal Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, gave the guest of honor speech, and Dr. Rajasree gave the special address.KUHS Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, R.S. Dean. Lastly, Mr. Dileep G, General Secretary of IPGA (Kerala State Branch), offered a vote of gratitude.

The program offers a number of features, such as investment/startup opportunities in the pharmaceutical sector, available government schemes for new startups in Kerala, career opportunities in pharmacy - paths after graduation, and the Head of Infrastructure and Inclusive Entrepreneurship Kerala Startup Mission.

With this in mind, the program offers a unique feature that helps students advance their careers in their placements and develop futuristic entrepreneurship. The visit to Startup Mission Village was finally completed by 4 pm, at which point a vote of gratitude was held.

GRACE COLLEGE OF PHARMACY, PALAKKAD 58th NATIONAL PHARMACY WEEK CELEBRATION

Grace College of pharmacy in association with the Indian Pharmaceutical Association had celebrated the National Pharmacy Week from 02nd to 07th December 2019. The major focus of NPW celebration is to create awareness among the public, other healthcare providers and the authorities, about the NPW theme, and in specific to knew well about the pharmacy profession and its role of the pharmacist in general. The theme selected for this year was “Pharmacist: Your Medication Counsellor”. As Part of the Pharmacy Week Celebration various competitions like Pharma Quiz, Elocution, Seminars, Debate, Oral Poster presentation, Scientific Poster Making, Live Patient Counseling Competition and Skit. All the students eagerly participated in all the events.

On this occasion blood donation camp was conducted in association with Kerala State Aids Control Society and National AIDS Control Organisation, Palakkad, Faculties and students were enthusiastically participated. the program was conducted by Mr M. Krishnapillai, Asst.Professor, NSS Program officer. Dr.Rajinikanth, Department of Pharmacology, who had given the demo class on COLS (Compression Only Life Support) with the IV B.Pharm Students at Puliyaparambu Higher secondary school which has been used well to the young adult students for the awareness and first aid against the cardiac arrest persons in any situation. The Vth Pharm D Students depicted a lecture on Antibiotic Resistance and its importance to the students of Puliyaparambu higher secondary school.

In connection with National Pharmacy Week celebrations a Diabetic Awareness Camp was organized on 03/12/2019 December 2019 at Primary Health Centre, Peruvemba under the guidance of Mrs. Thangamani and Mr.Mahesh Dept of Pharmacy Practice. The VI Pharm.D students actively participated & counseled the patients and briefed about the diabetic mellitus. As highlighted and an important note of this NPW-2019 Celebrations IV Pharm.D Students organized a social service camp at OLD AGE HOME (Santhinikethanam) by enchanting the old people with fun and health awareness class.

The Closing ceremony of National Pharmacy Week celebration was held on 7th December, 2019 at GCP Auditorium. It started on auspicious note with a prayer followed by the welcome address by Dr. Y. Haribabu, Principal, welcomed the gatherings, He emphasized upon the importance of pharmacist in the healthcare team. He also emphasized that the knowledge base, of the pharmacist is crucial to enable him to perform multiple roles. Dr. C. I. Sajeeth, Vice Principal, was the guest of honor has spoke about the role of pharmacist in patient care. He also emphasized upon the role of marketing personnel in safe use of medicines. He elaborated on the need for the community pharmacists to devote more time in patient counseling rather than only dispensing of drugs. All the winners and runners of the various competitions held in the NPW-2019 events rewarded with a certificate and trophies. The ceremony ends with the vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Resma fathima, Dept of pharmaceutics, Grace College of Pharmacy. The Programme concluded with National Anthem
