                  55th NATIONAL PHARMACY WEEK CLEBRATIONS

Grace College of pharmacy in association with the Indian Pharmaceutical Association had celebrated the National Pharmacy Week from 21st to 26th November; 2016.The major focus of NPW celebrations is to create awareness amongst the public, other healthcare providers and the authorities, about the NPW theme in specific and about the pharmacy profession and role of the pharmacist in general. The theme selected for this year “Pharmacists for a Healthy India: Role in Prevention and Management of DIABETES”.

Inauguration of 55th National Pharmacy Week was conducted in the college, Dr.Y.Haribabu, Principal, welcomed the gatherings. In his Presidential address, he emphasized upon the importance of pharmacist in the healthcare team. He also emphasized that the knowledge base, of the pharmacist is crucial  to enable him to perform multiple roles.

Chief Guest of the inaugural function Dr.M.S.Padmanabhan, RMO, District Hospital, Palakkad, Kerala,has highlighted the objectives  of the Pharmacy week and the various events chalked out for the week-long celebrations such as blood donation camp, health camp, and career awareness by staff and students to create awareness among public. In his address highlights that pharmacist should remember that patient is the prime focus whatever role they are carrying out. He gave an insight on how students should orient towards prevention and management of diabetes for the benefit of mankind.

Dr.C.I.Sajeeth,Vice Principal,was the guest of honour has spoke about the role of pharmacist in patient care.He also emphasized upon the role of marketing personnel in safe use of medicines.He elaborated on the need for the community pharmacists to devote more time in patient counseling rather than only dispensing of drugs.

On this occasion blood donation camp was conducted in association with District Hospital, Palakkad, Staffs and students were enthusiastically participated and M.Krishnapillai, Asst.Professor, NSS Program officer conducted the program.

In the last day of the national pharmacy week a huge Silent Pharma Rally was organized with pluck cards based on theme “Pharmacists for a Healthy India: Role in Prevention and Management of DIABETES”. The Pharma Rally was flag hosted by Dr.Y.Haribabu, Principal, Grace College of Pharmacy, Palakkad.

Apart from that various competitions like Pharma Quiz,Elocution,Seminars,Debate and e-Poster and Oral Poster presentation based on the NPW theme and the NPW celebrations were conducted by Prize distribution and Cultural programme.
