Pharmaceutical chemistry is the branch of pharmacy that deals with applied chemistry. It embraces organic, bioinorganic, physical, phytochemical and analytical chemistry. These disciplines are applied in the preparation, synthesis, standardization, interpretation of drug interactions and analysis of chemical substances for medicinal use. The objective of Pharmaceutical chemistry course is that at the end of the programme, the students should be able to apply their knowledge of the fundamental concepts and principles of inorganic, physical, medicinal and analytical chemistry to pharmaceuticals and then relate these concepts to drug synthesis, manufacturing and quality assurance in the practice of pharmacy.
The Department of Pharmaceutical chemistry came in to being on the campus of Grace College of Pharmacy in 2010 and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) from its inception. The department is housed in a newly constructed fourstoreyed building, which is furnished with well equipped labs, library, class rooms and other facilities in consonance with the requirements of the fast changing scenario of Pharma field. The teaching staff is a dedicated one with an updated knowledge in the subject and imparting the best possible practical training to the students while keeping them abreast with the latest developments in the field in order to prepare them to compete with the fast developing world in the Pharma sector.
The dept. is well equipped with three laboratories and one air-conditioned instrumentation laboratory with sophisticated instruments like colorimeter, UV/Visible spectrophotometer, FT-IR spectrophotometer, High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), Electronic balance etc. to train UG and PG students with facilities for carrying out synthesis, molecular modeling, development and validation of analytical methods, extraction, isolation and identification of phytopharmaceuticals
