The Department of Pharmacy Practice was established in 2010, within the Grace College of Pharmacy, Palakkad provides education to postgraduate (M.Pharm) students and Pharm.D (Doctor of Pharmacy) students on the rational use of drugs, enables and advocates advanced clinical pharmacy practice, and creates and disseminates new knowledge about the effective, safe, and economical use of medications in people. The area of specialization includes hospital, clinical and community pharmacy. The department collaborate with our sister concern Karuna Medical College Hospital having 500 beds.The hospital consist of various departments such as Pediatrics, Dermatology, Neurology, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Orthopedics, Medical&Surgical, Oncology, Gastro-enterolgy etc..
The Drug & Poison Information Center is well utilized by health professionals and provides a high profile service. The center provides current drug information from standard monographs, text books, internet resources and subscribed databases such as Micromedex's Drugdex
Postgraduate students participate in daily ward rounds of various medicine units and other specialized units like Pediatrics, Dermatology, Neurology,Gynecology And Obstetrics,Orthopedics, Medical&Surgical,Oncology,Gastro-enterolgy etc...
Patient counselling was successfully implemented by our department and it has published handouts for the Diabetes, Hypertension, Asthma &COPD patients to improve patient's compliance.
Department of Pharmacy Practice provides toxicological information and advice Medical/Paramedical/Public on the management of poisoned patients adapted to the level of the enquirer. This service is based on the databases on poisoning, drug reactions and also the continuous and systematic collection of data from the library.
